By 1973 Yamaha had sold around 70,000 DT250s in five years. The year brought a more dirt-oriented front tyre size and dual-rate shock springs, and the Torque Induction engine with extra piston-skirt holes improved throttle response. A magazine test of the time recorded a 17.94 s quarter mile and about 40 mpg.
